Wedding Stories
Carl & Christine
Wildflower field · June afternoon
Barefoot In The Grass
No venue, no chairs, no shoes. Carl and Christine married in the middle of a wildflower field with thirty guests sitting in a circle on blankets, a friend officiating from a camping stool, and Christine's crown woven that morning from whatever was blooming.
After the vows they did what the field suggested: lay down in it. The now-famous frame — the two of them head to head in the grass, her crown tipped sideways, his eyes closed — took four seconds and zero direction. Some couples perform joy. These two just exude it.
The "reception" was a picnic: fried chicken, pies on cooling racks, lemonade in jars, a fiddle player who followed the sun. Guests left with jars of honey and grass in their cuffs. Total rental bill: one portable restroom. Total happiness: immeasurable.
"Four seconds in the grass, and it's the photograph of our lives. You saw us better than we saw ourselves."
— Christine, the bride
