Eugene & Kathleen
Black-pebble cove · Early autumn
Vows Over The Surf
The forecast said rain. Instead the clouds thinned to gauze and the sea turned the color of hammered silver. Eugene and Kathleen walked to their ceremony barefoot across black pebbles, her dress train gathering salt and light, his jacket over her shoulders between portraits.
Their officiant timed the vows to the waves — you can see it in the frames, the two of them pausing mid-sentence as a big set rolled in, then laughing through the applause of forty guests wrapped in blankets. Nobody checked a phone all afternoon. That is the whole review of this wedding, really.
An hour before sunset the mist came down and gave us the softest portraits of the season: two figures, one shoreline, no horizon. Proof, if any were needed, that weather is not a backdrop — it is a guest.
"The mist, the waves mid-vow, my father's face — it's all there. Our families on two continents have watched the gallery a hundred times."
— Kathleen, the bride
